Here we are in the 21st Century, and it seems as if the future is up for grabs!

Those who claim the society is becoming increasingly secular, need to check again. 

True secularism denotes attitudes, activities, and beliefs that have NO basis in religion or a belief in God. The only true secularists are those who would embrace Scientism, Atheism, or Marxism. While there are those who embrace such ideologies, if you pay attention to every form of media, and listen to conversations in the public marketplace or in private conversation, the masses and the multitudes are embracing all sorts of ideologies that involve a belief in the supernatural.

Consider the Pew Research Center’s findings:

Substantial portions of the unaffiliated – particularly among those who describe their religion as “nothing in particular” – say they believe in God or a universal spirit. And while 42% of the unaffiliated describe themselves as neither a religious nor a spiritual person, 18% say they are a religious person, and 37% say they are spiritual but not religious.

In that same study, actually 12% consider themselves atheists, 17% consider themselves agnostic, and 71% consider themselves as “nothing in particular”. 

Sounds like a great opportunity to “seed” the cultural conversations with the testimony of Jesus with the expectation that God Himself will confirm His Word with signs and wonders following.

Somehow, it seems as though we have sought after the “sensational” and lost the beauty of the “supernatural”. 

“Prophetic Function” isn’t about being weird or strange, though some would love for you to believe that based on how they carry themselves.

Prophetic Function also is more, far more, than predicting the future. In fact, prophetic function is so important and so vital, that without it, the believer loses his or her voice! 

It was the late T. A. Sparks who said that Prophetic Function is about “spiritual interpretation”. Sadly, some of what is being “spiritually interpreted” these days about people’s lives, current events, and everything in-between is jaded and biased by inaccurate interpretations of Scripture. All of which causes those atheists, agnostics, and “nothing in particular’s” to look at us as if we have lost our minds. In some settings, “spiritual interpretation” sounds like you check your brain at the door and stop thinking altogether and simply “go with the flow”. That is not only inaccurate, it is deceptively dangerous. As a believer if you check your mind at the door, you are in an unhealthy environment. You are to love God with all your mind as well as your strength! 

Genuine Prophetic Function is filled with truth, wisdom, purity, power, mercy, and God’s grace and righteousness. There is a genuine sense of heavenly authority when authentic spiritual interpretation is taking place through the gifts (“charisms”) of the Spirit such as the word of knowledge, the word of wisdom, the discerning of spirits, the working of miracles, the gifts of healing, and the rest.

Prophetic Function and Spiritual Interpretation is never about controlling other people or manipulating them. When in operation it is the expression of the “testimony of Jesus” which IS the “spirit of prophecy”. Jesus is center stage when the genuine prophetic function is operating in the life of a believer.

Jesus and the Father have the same goal and the Holy Spirit is moving us towards that goal: “to bring many sons and daughters to glory (Hebrews 2:10).”

Glory isn’t simply a “mist” that floats over a meeting. In the context of what the writer to the Hebrews is speaking of, it is all about, it is the restoration of God’s sons and daughters to that place of reigning and ruling with Christ over His good Creation in the New Creation! 

Everything going on now, whatever sphere of life you walk in, whatever your calling, is your training for reigning! In a sense, being brought to glory is about the maximizing of your full potential in Christ to fulfill the Father’s intention for your life.

The Prophetic Function, “spiritual interpretation” has to apply to every aspect of your life IF it is to be practical. If it isn’t practical, you can dismiss it as having nothing to do with the Prophetic Function.

So here are some things you need to be aware of regarding Prophetic Function, Spiritual Interpretation, And The Charisms Of The Spirit:

They are to be part of your everyday life, YES YOUR LIFE!
They operate everywhere YOU go not just in a church gathering! (Isn’t the Spirit of God everywhere?)
They are to be part of your HEALING JOURNEY in Jesus, because God sends His word to heal you, are you listening for His healing word on a daily basis (Psalm 107:20)
They are part of what brings things to convergence by way of the synergy of the Holy Spirit so that you operate in the favor of God that is on you!
They are part of how you fulfill the Great Commission with Christ’s authority to bring life to those you touch and connect with that need to know Him!
They are a part of how you incarnate Christ in the culture! 

There are so many powerful insights in Scripture both in the Old Testament and the New Testament that speak to Prophetic Function and Spiritual Interpretation and the power that is released for individuals as well as communities when it is honored and present.
